SUMMARY:Annual Community Blessing of the Animals/Pets
DESCRIPTION:All pet lovers are invited to the annual Blessing of the Animals on Thursday\, October 8th\, from 12:15 PM to 1:15 pm at St. John’s Episcopal Lutheran Church at 202 W. Grant St. in Williams.  Each pet will receive a Blessing from Father Phil Shaw\, a medallion for the pet’s collar or carrier.  Staff from the Williams Veterinary Wellness clinic will also be on hand to provide each pet owner with wellness info and will be available to answer basic questions or concerns you may have about your pet.\n\n\nThere will be a donation box at this community event for those who can donate a can or bag of pet food for the food pantry at St. John’s.  We realize that many people in the community may be having issues being able to afford pet food right now.  So the collection will be used to help those feeling that pinch.  There will also be a donation box for pet food at the clinic for the entire month of October.\n\n\nAll pets are welcome (from goldfish\, parakeets\, hamsters\, guinea pigs\, cats\, dogs\, goats to horses!).  All dogs must be on leash at all times for the safety of other pets and your small pets must be in a carrier or appropriate carrying container.  Large animals may be trailered in and Fr. Shaw will come to your trailer to do the blessing.\n\n\nThis free community event will be outside if the weather is nice and will be moved inside the double red doors if the weather is uncooperative.

SUMMARY:Film Showing - The Wisdom of Trauma: A Journey to the Root of Human Pain and the Source of Healing
DESCRIPTION:The community is invited to a showing of the film The Wisdom of Trauma featuring Dr. Gabor Mate\, a film by Zaya and Maurizio Benazzo.  The Wisdom of Trauma is a 2021 documentary produced by Science and Nonduality (SAND). The film examines the connection between trauma\, mental illness\, addiction\, and chronic illness in modern society. The film highlights how trauma shapes the way people live\, love\, and make sense of the world\, emphasizing that unresolved trauma is at the root of many personal and societal challenges.  Dr. Maté\, a physician\, provides insights from his decades of research and clinical experience. Audiences have praised the film for its honest\, hopeful\, and tender approach to human potential\, describing it as a powerful introduction to understanding trauma and its effects.  We will be showing the film in Walker Hall.  All who have an interest in this topic are welcome to come and view the film. \nRun time: 87 minutes

SUMMARY:Circle Singing
DESCRIPTION:On July 25\, 2026\, Elizabeth Hangan will be leading a Circle Singing get together in Walker Hall at St. John’s Episcopal-Lutheran Church (202 W. Grant Ave. in Williams) from 2 PM – 4 PM.  This is a singing activity for those who love to sing (if only in the shower!) from ages 12 to 100. \nCircle Singing is a vocal improvisational technique that was created in 1986 by the jazz artist Bobby McFerrin.  It offers a safe and welcoming space for all to use their voices.  No singing experience is necessary – there is no printed music to follow.  You just need an open mind and heart\, and a willingness to make fun sounds with others!  Circle Singing is a guided musical/vocal experience that is a lot of fun and very uplifting. \nIn 2023\, Ms. Hangan attended a Circle Singing event at her church and realized that this was something she wanted to share with others.  And so she enrolled in a Circle Singing training worship in San Francisco at the Grace Cathedral\, led by Bobby McFerrin and several other Circle Singing instructors.  She now holds her own Circle Singing events whenever possible. \nMs. Hangan is a singer and bass player known for her work in blues\, jazz\, and collaborative music projects. She performs and teaches at the Claremont Folk Music Center\, where she also co-leads the Citrus Sisters trio. Her music spans original compositions\, blues standards\, and jazz improvisation\, and she has appeared in recordings and live showcases\, including the National Women in Blues events. \nWe are very excited that Ms. Hangan is coming to Williams to share this music-making event with all of us!  There is no cost to attend\, but there will be a free-will donation to help cover Ms. her travel expenses to come to Williams.
