SUMMARY:Circle Singing
DESCRIPTION:On July 25\, 2026\, Elizabeth Hangan will be leading a Circle Singing get together in Walker Hall at St. John’s Episcopal-Lutheran Church (202 W. Grant Ave. in Williams) from 2 PM – 4 PM.  This is a singing activity for those who love to sing (if only in the shower!) from ages 12 to 100. \nCircle Singing is a vocal improvisational technique that was created in 1986 by the jazz artist Bobby McFerrin.  It offers a safe and welcoming space for all to use their voices.  No singing experience is necessary – there is no printed music to follow.  You just need an open mind and heart\, and a willingness to make fun sounds with others!  Circle Singing is a guided musical/vocal experience that is a lot of fun and very uplifting. \nIn 2023\, Ms. Hangan attended a Circle Singing event at her church and realized that this was something she wanted to share with others.  And so she enrolled in a Circle Singing training worship in San Francisco at the Grace Cathedral\, led by Bobby McFerrin and several other Circle Singing instructors.  She now holds her own Circle Singing events whenever possible. \nMs. Hangan is a singer and bass player known for her work in blues\, jazz\, and collaborative music projects. She performs and teaches at the Claremont Folk Music Center\, where she also co-leads the Citrus Sisters trio. Her music spans original compositions\, blues standards\, and jazz improvisation\, and she has appeared in recordings and live showcases\, including the National Women in Blues events. \nWe are very excited that Ms. Hangan is coming to Williams to share this music-making event with all of us!  There is no cost to attend\, but there will be a free-will donation to help cover Ms. her travel expenses to come to Williams.
