Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. — Matthew 16
You are invited and welcomed to our 10:30 a.m. weekly Sunday service at St. John’s. Our double red doors are open to all. Our service will be led this week by Fr. Phil Shaw, and we will have special music provided by David Mills and Tora Moody. Our Reader this week is Beth LaGro. Our service includes Holy Communion, and all are welcome at the Lord’s Table.
St. John’s is a welcoming church to all who are searching for a new home church, and those who are traveling and visiting our beautiful region. Our church combines the rich histories and traditions of both the Episcopal Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in American (ELCA). The historic interior and stained-glass windows of our church came to us from an old Episcopal church in Jerome, Arizona after it was decommissioned when the city became a ghost town. Many say that our church’s interior provides solace and deep peace upon entering the sanctuary. We hope that you will feel that, too.
If you cannot join us this week, you may wish to read the four scripture readings that will be our Lectionary at this week’s service, and also have the daily prayer we will say together. The following link will open up and provide you with those readings. Proper-16A1 (PDF)
We look forward to greeting you this Sunday!
